Developing Women Leaders Continues to be a Top Priority at Baker Tilly

The firm’s Growth and Retention of Women program releases its 2015 annual report

CHICAGO (April 5, 2016) – Accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) today released its 2015 Growth and Retention of Women (GROW) annual report highlighting the firm’s focus on addressing one of the most critical and persistent issues facing organizations today: the recruitment, development, and retention of talented women professionals.

Specific to the accounting profession, the American Institute of CPAs’ research indicates that the percentage of new CPAs is evenly split between men and women. Yet, women account for less than 25 percent of partners in U.S. CPA firms.1

“Developing and retaining women leaders is essential to compete and grow in the global, knowledge-based economy,” Baker Tilly CEO-Elect Alan Whitman said. “Mobilizing gender differences and leveraging complementary approaches yields a competitive advantage and better strategic decisions that benefit our people, clients, profession and communities.”

“Since GROW’s inception eight years ago, our focus on leadership, professional development, career paths, networking and sharing knowledge, flexibility and other employee benefits, as well as supporting recruitment efforts of talented women, has led to an inclusive environment where women feel valued and inspired,” Principal and Chair of Baker Tilly’s GROW Committee Kim Herlitzka said.

“Appreciating how both genders contribute to the creation of an innovative and collaborative workplace is central to fostering a culture that embraces opportunity for all team members,” Herlitzka added.
