WASHINGTON (October 16, 2014) – Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) today announced that Barbara Schaefer McDuffie, managing director of business development for the firm’s D.C. office, was recently honored with the Outstanding Impact Award by Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) of Washington, D.C. This is CREW DC’s top honor and recognizes lifetime achievements in local real estate by a woman. McDuffie was selected for her long track record of outstanding performance and achievements in the local real estate market, serving as a role model for others, mentoring other women and breaking barriers in her field.
“Barbara’s accomplishments continue to make Baker Tilly proud,” said Todd Stokes, Baker Tilly’s D.C. managing partner. “Having her leadership and industry dedication on our team elevates our firm, and her passion for mentoring young professionals ensures our ability to develop the best and brightest in the profession of accounting and consulting.”
McDuffie has served the commercial real estate industry for more than thirty years. She joined Baker Tilly in 2007, and continues to be a leader in the D.C. business community. In addition to developing new business for the firm, she is known for mentoring staff and creating opportunities for them to further their professional development and become involved in the industry. McDuffie serves on the Executive Committee of the firm’s Growth and Retention of Women (GROW) initiative. GROW’s mission is to significantly enhance the recruitment, retention, development and advancement of women at Baker Tilly.
McDuffie is particularly passionate about the recognition and advancement of women in commercial real estate. Among her impressive list of contributions in the community, she is a founder and serves as co-chair of Lombardi Women & Wine annual dinner, benefitting breast cancer research. She is co-chair of the Corporate Committee for the Lombardi Gala and is the 2012 recipient of the Margaret L. Hodges Leadership Award. She was recognized in 2013 by Washington Business Journal as one of the Women Who Mean Business award winners. Her 2013 award class recognized twenty-five of the D.C. metropolitan area’s most influential female leaders, including business owners, executives, entrepreneurs and philanthropists. McDuffie has served on the Advisory Board for CREW DC, the largest chapter of the national organization, and is completing her first term on the CREW DC Board as director of programs. She will continue to serve on the CREW DC Board of Directors in 2015.
“The CREW DC Outstanding Impact Award is a terrific honor,” said McDuffie. “I am preceded by eight outstanding honorees of this award, who have been my inspiration and mentors. I can only hope to live up to what this award symbolizes. It is important to ensure women feel their strength and reach their potential.”
McDuffie and other honorees were recognized at an awards reception on October 9, 2014 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington.
