CHICAGO (June 3, 2014) - Title IX, the landmark civil rights law passed in 1972 prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in federally assisted educational programs and activities, is receiving increased attention relative to how sexual assault cases are handled on campuses around the country. Title IX is no longer just known for its role in gender equity in athletics or employment, but for how it defines a college or university’s responsibility to prevent and respond to alleged sexual assaults in campus communities.
Accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause (Baker Tilly) will explore how colleges and universities can proactively address the myriad of regulations and guidance involved in Title IX on a new webinar on June 12, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. CDT – 2:00 p.m. CDT. The webinar will address the changing risk landscape of Title IX, including:
- Practical approaches for proactively assessing an institution’s policies, procedures, practices, and roles and responsibilities relative to Title IX.
- Questions that governing bodies should be asking about Title IX risks.
- Steps for internal auditors and senior leaders to take in order to provide assurance in response to those questions.
- A case study of one institution’s recent Title IX internal assessment approach; the challenges that were identified in their organizational structure, communication, and procedures and the involvement of the institution’s governing board.
The free webinar is presented by Baker Tilly, The Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA), The Association of Governing Boards (AGB) and Hogan Lovells.
