Baker Tilly partners with United Athletes Foundation to make a mission possible

CHICAGO - Baker Tilly is pleased to have developed a national affordable housing and community development strategic partnership with United Athletes Foundation (UAF), a non-profit organization established in 2008 by a group of professional athletes seeking to improve the lives of their athlete fraternity and the communities in which they live. Ray Lewis, linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, serves as Vice Chairman of UAF’s Board of Directors, working alongside UAF co-founder and president, and former NFL player, Reggie Howard to address an important mission.

Decent, quality affordable housing has a demonstrable impact on family stability and the life outcomes of the nation’s children. It is a cornerstone of healthy neighborhoods and shapes the quality of community life, satisfying a critical societal need. Coupling Baker Tilly’s extensive experience in the affordable housing and community development industry with the influential power and passion of UAF members, the partnership seeks to develop a national platform to provide holistic programs and solutions to address the lack of quality, affordable housing and jobs in many communities across the US.

Baker Tilly will guide UAF in acquisitions, financing for renovations and flexible financial instruments for those who will live in the future homes across the US, but another goal is to use its reach to bring in more corporate help.

Baker Tilly has a successful track record of helping clients and strategic partners identify and secure sources of funding, and facilitate public/private partnerships relative to key development and affordable housing initiatives. "Having an influential partner like UAF allows us to more readily forge critical relationships needed to leverage existing regional and local institutions, community assets, and corporate partners that will facilitate confidence among funders and attract both adequate and appropriate partners to projects," says Don Bernards, leader of Baker Tilly’s affordable housing practice.
