Baker Tilly Partner Named Among George Mason University 2016 Prominent Patriots

John Niehoff selected as one of 20 exceptional business alumni honored on October 13

WASHINGTON (October 20, 2016) – Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (Baker Tilly) Partner and Professional Service Practice Leader, John T. Niehoff, CPA,  has been named, to the George Mason University School of Business 2016 Class of 20 Prominent Patriots in Business. This award recognizes exceptional alumni who demonstrate citizenship, scholarship and leadership in their everyday life.

“I was fortunate to receive such a great education, with financial support, years ago,” Niehoff, who attended the university on a basketball scholarship, said. “I’m honored that my peers have selected me for this recognition.”

Since earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1984, he has actively supported his alma mater. Niehoff currently serves on the School of Business Dean’s Council and the George Mason Foundation Board of Trustees, and spearheads recruitment efforts at the university for Baker Tilly.

“I remember how important financial assistance was to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help others,” Niehoff said. Each year top-performing accounting students receive assistance through the James R. Beers Accounting Scholarship Endowment, a benefaction Baker Tilly helped establish. Niehoff also supports the school’s athletic programs through membership in the Patriot Club and Green Coat Society.

Niehoff further epitomizes the award’s ideals through his community and professional leadership. After serving on the Capitol Chapter Board of Directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for six years, he continues to raise funds for the annual gala. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and frequently speaks at Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) conferences about accounting, tax and other advisory-related matters.

At Baker Tilly, Niehoff leads the firmwide strategy for providing exceptional service to law firms and other professional service businesses. Similar to his recruiting and mentoring efforts at George Mason, he is building a team to support Baker Tilly’s expanding client base throughout the East region, which extends from New York and Pennsylvania to the Washington, D.C. metro area.
