Scott Stringer is the director of the business investigative services and litigation support practice for the Baker Tilly Illinois region. Joining the firm in 2014, he has over thirty years of experience serving clients in various capacities including as auditor, tax advisor, business consultant, business valuator, expert witness, and fraud examiner.

Since 2001, Scott has focused his practice primarily on assisting clients and their attorneys with business investigations and accounting and financial issues arising in financial fraud and complex litigation cases. He has conducted business investigations and provided expert witness testimony on accounting and financial matters in numerous state and federal jurisdictions across the country.

Experience

  • Qualified as an expert witness by the court in hundreds of cases
  • Testified more than 100 times in depositions, trials, and arbitration hearings
  • Appointed as an arbiter by judges in both Illinois and Missouri circuit courts
  • Analyzed tax regulations and testified in numerous criminal income tax cases involving both taxpayers and income tax preparers involved in Anderson Ark & Associates tax shelter schemes
  • Prepared schedules of trading activity and testified in numerous FINRA arbitrations subsequent to the burst of the dot com bubble in the early 2000s
  • Calculates past and future lost profits and ill-gotten gains in business disputes
  • Determines the value of businesses that are the subject of shareholder and post-acquisition disputes
  • Assists attorneys in understanding and rebutting opposing financial expert opinions
  • Investigates, identifies, and quantifies the effect of employee embezzlement and vendor fraud schemes
  • Investigates and quantifies the amount lost by victims in Ponzi schemes
  • Determines the level of adherence to generally accepted accounting standards for cases involving financial statement fraud
  • Reviews financial statements and supporting working papers to determine if generally accepted audit standards have been complied with in accounting malpractice cases
